Dream Saturday A.M
I was in a vacation town.
A town on the water with a beach.
The beach attracted summer people.
I was staying in the old part of town.
The avenues and houses were shaded by large trees.
The shade helped to make these areas feel peaceful and cool in the summer.
The patterns on my eyes of deep shade and bright sun.
I wanted to go swimming.
I was staying with old friends and family in the area, who I had not seen
in a long time.
They had several dogs.
I asked if I could take one to the beach.
The dog was a large friendly male, looking like a golden
retriever, although I am not sure I could describe the breed.
It was a big house. Some of my family were around also.
It was a nice house with light through the windows.
There were some suburban areas to get to the beach.
These areas that I passed  were newer, with split level homes without  old trees.
The houses were brick and all very similar, new construction, without much personality. they looked kind of sterile as I drove past.
it looked like florida, or the hamptons.
I borrowed a car and drove to the beach on this morning.
Just wanted to lie by the water.
The dog sat in the passenger seat. I was alert and excited
when we started.
I found the beach.
it was down a  hill next to a house along the beach.
I had to park on the road and walk a small path
between the  houses on the water.
The beach was really a grassy hill that went directly into the water.
I found a comfortable spot just a few feet from the water and spread out a blanket.
The water was calm.
I was tired and dozed off on the grass by the water.
I had my black bag, like a messenger bag, with me
I had a camera- a good old camera with a good lens, beat up, not digital in the bag.
I had my wallet , the keys, although I did not check the bag closely.
As I rested  the waterfront started filling up
A group of teenagers, in the late teens
started hanging around
there is one kid who was striking
A handsome tall slender kid with longish light hair
He smiled yet his eyes were piercing and angry.
He was a leader or a  popular figure with his crowd that sat down right above me on the hill. I could sense how they deferred to him. They sat just af few feet from me in  a semicircle. They seemed a little unfriendly.
I thought it was just normal though.
I felt they encroached on my space by sitting a little too close.
Just typical teenagers.
I was so sleepy.
I could not stay awake.
The kid who was the leader, the one I had noticed earlier,  started bugging me,
teasing me - making snide comments.
They were innocuous at first, then became more barbed,
I kept sleeping, but woke up, or was jarred awake.
I tried to take it as a joke and replied out of my sleep from time to time.
I tried to play along.
That boy got nastier
I was so tired.
Just could not stay awake.
l woke up to find that he was siiting on me while I was sleeping
I could not get him off
I was in a bad position.
I was lying face down
and he was on top of me
I tried to shake him off for a long time
still fighting this fatigue.
I eventually shook him off, but not sure how.
I started waking up.
I realized the dog was not there
I became alert and frantic then
and I ran up the hill looking for him
There was a fair going on,
with balloons, booths and clowns.
I had not noticed it before.
Only from the top of the small hill as I looked for him
I remembered I left my bag next to my blanket, and had not checked it
or looked at it for a few minutes.
and ran down to make sure they were ok
They were in a mess.
by bag was there- muddy and dirty
checked in it but could see
immediately that my camera and wallet were gone.
What I did find (to my surprise)
was my fathers old address book
he used to keep these tiny notebooks
with phone numbers addresses
I was so angry at myself
so furious at my screw up
it seemed so stupid
and real
so real
I was shocked and surprised when I woke up
that I had not lost anything at all

Hello.
